oooh, an excellent question! I do mean pinking shears though. The pinking of fabric that resembles the serrated frilly edge of the dianthus flower which is itself pink in colour & likely where we get the colour name from.
It wasn’t, though my ex-partner used to be obsessed with the idea of the backrooms, so maybe something subconscious filtered through. Reading it back, it definitely has that vibe, though!
